I finally figured it was time to try making one. I wanted to share our way of life, Handcrafts, ideas and farm moments. My Family & friends are dear to my heart. Dave and I both grew up in the country on small family farms. The simplistic and practical way of life. Farm and Country is part of our heritage. Our handicrafts reflects that.

Mom & Grandma would sit at the kitchen table, which was in front of the big window watching us kids in the front yard. It was always fun being at Grandma house. Sometimes we would get to stay all day & have dinner. All us kids would go play games in the front yard. We would play Mother may I, Red Rover, Ring around the rosey & Red light green light. After dark we would play hide & go seek. Once in awhile one of the adults would sneak out and surprise us. We would all run screaming for the house. When we got to be about 6, we had new rules out side fenced front yard.

Stay away from the road

if you go out back make sure you close the gates

watch out for the geese

dont touch the electic fence

stay away from the momma pig & her piglets.

If you take your little brother's keep an eye on them.

I always liked going out back with Grandpa, he treated me like a bigger kid & taught me the rules & showed me things.

I was born on my great grandma birthday, so was my mom. Grandma lived in Longmont CO. Every spring she would come to Washington state to spend our birthday’s together staying the whole month at her daughter my grandma’s house. Being born in 1879, she had many wonderful stories to share. Traveling by covered wagon, cooking for the Ranch Hands. Being a pioneer daughter, wife and mother. She baked her own bread most of her life. One of my favorite stories was the time my grandma was a baby & got sick. Great Grandpa was away on a cattle drive, Great grandma was home with the kids. The only horse was a wild mustang in the corral. They lived on the ranch & had no other way to town. Great grandma needed to get the baby to the doctor. She wrapped up Grandma tight, put her on the pump house roof. Great Grandma went into the corral, saddled the horse, he bucked around for awhile, she open the gate & as they ran passed the pump house, she reached out & grabbed grandma. That horse ran all the way to town & was broke by the time they got to town. I all ways looked up to her. She was a wonderful patient, loving, determined, strong Lady. Each year she would get all the ladies of the family together for the family project. They would sewing, quilting & crochet Afghans, at the end of her stay each family was given a quilt or afghan. My love for sewing start from my Grandmas example. I can remember sitting under the quilt rack & watching those strong hands work. She never tired, was active in church until her passed away in 1971.

I make my aprons in memory of Grandma, who showed a little girl how to sew.

My Great Grandma

Great Grandma Elenor Dagle 86 - 1965 Ellensuburg Daily Record newspaper.

Mrs Elenor Dagle 86 of Longmont, Colo who spends her winters here with her daughter Mrs O.W. Teter on Route 1, is shown with some of the may quilts she and her family have made and put together this winter. Altogether, they have produced 11 finished quilts, some tied, some quilted. Working as a group to make the colorful, warm bedding are Mrs. Dagle, Mrs Teter, Mrs Teter's two daughters, Bonnie Heber and Betty Fields and the Teter's daughter in law Louise Teter. Working as a team they supply quilts for all the beds of the big family. Beside making quilts the group also makes beautiful afghans. Mrs Dagle's two other daughters are Mrs Evelyn Teter of Carnation and Mrs Helen Wood of Kent.

Winter of 1965 Great Grandma Dagle, Grandma Teter & Aunt LouLou quilting - Article in the Ellensburg Daily Record. Terry.

Jaime has been gone for over a week now. Have been thinking about what I can do as a mom & grandma to help my son & granddaughter though this time. Have been thinking about a memorial apron & part of the proceeds go to Terry & Abbie. Not sure if anyone would want one, would be customer orders.
Today my niece Angie asked me if I was going to make a memoral Apron in Jaimes name.
So... I have cut out an apron in Irish Setter Red, will embroider a floral heart with Jaime's name in it. Also thinking that I can find a pretty Calico & call it Jaimes Calico & proceeds to Abbie & Terry's What do you think?

My Daughter in law - Jaime Lynn Johnston

Jaime Lynn Johnston

Feb 18, 1976 - Dec 15, 2009

Tuesday December 15, 2009 Jaime Lynn Johnston passed away in her sleep. I let my blog lapse.

I signed on to Face Book to keep track of my Son & daughter in law Jaime better. We started an group there called "Terry Marsh's Family & Friends"

The group was created to support Terry Marsh my Son.

He is husband, lover, best friend, caregiver, hand holder & coach, for his wife Jaime Johnston. His love of his life is still in UW Hospital from complication from her stem cell transplant for Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) They have been in Seattle since June, he is living in an apartment close by the hospital. Their goal is to be home by Christmas.

There have been several set backs since the transplant. In October Jaime collapsed had to be hospitalized. This has been one of the hardest things Terry has to deal with. She is still in the hospital right now.

We need to support him, physically, emotionally & spiritually, while he supports Jaime & when he is away from Abbie. He does get away for a day, maybe 2 at the most spending time Abbie. His Father & brother. Have been great going for hikes & road trips.

Terry hates to be away from Jaime long.

Thank you for all you have been doing for my son during this year. It has & is a long road. A bend in the road is not the end of the road...unless you fail to make the turn.

We are making that turn now.

Labor Day Seattle 2009

Our Web site

We have a Guest Map so I am able to see who visits our website : http://home.earthlink.net/~daveandgrace/

& our Blog.

Thanks for visiting
Dave & Grace

Abbie is in Ellensburg

It was really a wonderful visit, my Granddaughter is quick to learn & fell right into the rhythm of our little farm. Most of the week she learned how we take care of the animals, safety with the goats & she was able to go as often as she wanted to see the goats.
She held her little bunny (no name yet) as often as she wanted. Papa kept asking if her bunny still had some fur left. LOL. Abbie would just laugh & smile.
We got lots of laughs & smiles all week. Was so nice to get hugs, share information about the animals, answer questions & teacher somethings. Yes, she taught us some too. Just loved having her here.
Sunday the 29 of June we were able to take our grand kids Brandon 18, Matt 9 & Abbie 8 to visit Ellensburg, had lots of fun. Abbie fell in love with Uncle Hugh & Aunt Willie. The asked her if she would like to come stay with them for a week, also an open invitation to stay longer or come back anytime. They are both retired on their 20 acre farm in Ellensburg.

Got up early Sunday July 5, last day of our vacation & last day of Abbie's stay with us. It is an 3 hour drive, got out of the house later than I wanted. Papa & Abbie were having fun with the fireworks last night, they got to bed late. The important thing was Abbie & Papa had fun together. Met my brother & sister in law 1/2 way in Naches. Had lunch, visited then came the time to leave. We all did great no tears.
Abbie was so excited about staying with them. I know a lot had to do with the 2 week old calf.

Last Friday the 3, she has spent most of the day with some of our farm books reading. Asked her what she was doing? She was coping this one point about " How not to spoil your calf" so she can help Uncle Hugh with the new calf while she is there. It took her about 2 hrs but she got it all copied & took it with her. Quite a kid.

Abbie models the girl aprons

Abbie had fun the other day modeling some of my Girl Aprons. It did not have any pocket, She would tuck the spoon in the waist band. I always wanted a real apron with pockets like hers.

I started thinking about our Granddaughter Abbie. She likes to help me in the kitchen when she comes for a visit. She turned eight in November 2008. Now she needs her own apron like her Grandma Grace. I made the girls pattern just the right size for our little kitchen helpers.

Farm Girl Abbie

This week has been wonderful with Abbie. Terry is Jaime's caregiver when she is released from the hospital. With school out for him right now & Abbies ending next friday. They have been over whelmed with response from family & friends to help out. Dave & I both work full time & live 2 1/2 hours away. Jaime has been in & out of the UW Hospital for treatments.
Tomorrow June 8, at about 2:00 PM she gets her stem cell transplant.

Friends & family have started a group on Facebook for Jaime.
This group has been created to support Jaime Johnston, of WA state, a young mother who has just been admitted to UW Hospital for a stem cell transplant because she has twice gone through Acute Myelocitic Leukemia, or AML. She will be in the hospital for 1 1/2 to two months and then must live close to the hospital for another 3-4 months. We want to support her physically & emotionally. We are also doing fundraising, because insurance will only cover certain things and few of us are ever prepared for a catastrophic lillness. My 2nd son & his little family need your prayers.

I talked with my son Terry last night. His wife Jaime was diagnosed with Leukemia 2 yrs ago. After extreme chemo treatments, she was in remission. Jaime has not been feeling to good lately. They went to the doctor yesterday. To get blood work done. They just found out she is sick again. She will be starting chemo again on Monday Jan. 12. They also stated she will need a stem cell transplant after she is in remission again. Terry & Jaime have been married 10 years they have a wonderful daughter Abbie who is 8, she just had her birthday Nov 29. Jaime will be in the hospital for 30 days for her chemo treatment. I talked with them last night. This knocked them both on their backsides. They were hoping remission would be for a longer period.
